Last week I attended a winter trends makeup workshop all about winter skin & what’s hot for this season. So I decided to do a quick look that incorporated both a warm bold ombrè lip & striking lashes. I’ve already applied my primer,  foundation & some lip balm, which I allow to set for a minute or two while I take a sip of tea 🙂 Follow the steps in order or in which ever way you feel is easier but most of all, have fun!

Step 1:

I apply my concealer under my eyes in a triangle shape, down the bridge of my nose, my forehead & a bit on my chin. I then go in with my highlighter pen on the exact same spots & blend them together with a beauty blender or face sponge. I prefer using a damp beauty blender instead of a brush as I find the concealer blends in better & has a less ‘cakey’ effect. Set with translucent powder so it wont budge or create creasing under the eyes.

Step 2:

For contour, I use a pressed powder 3 shades darker than my skin tone. I prefer using a powder rather than a cream formula for contouring because I can build more on the sharpness of the contour. Using an angled brush, I draw a light line directly below my cheekbones, from my inner ear down to mid-cheek. Once I have the line set, I can go in & build on it depending on how sharp you like your contour. Then draw 2 parallel lines down the sides of your nose starting inline with the corner of your eye till just before you nostrils.

Step 3:

Blend everything into your skin using a large stipling brush or blending brush until there are no harsh lines. Blend until the lines start to look like shadows. You want your contouring to appear as natural as possible.

Step 4:

Enhance the prominent parts of your face by dabbing a creamy highlighter or alternatively a pearl eyeshadow lightly along your cheek bones, down the bridge of your nose & on your cupids bow. Hit your cheeks with some blush & blend, blend, blend.

Step 5:

I didn’t want a bold winged liner, just something simple as my lashes were going to do the talking. I used this liner pen which shows its versatility just to create a thin line directly on my lash line. This will give the effect of bolder lashes.

Step 6:

I always give my lashes a thin coat of mascara before applying falsies. The trick to applying strip lashes is to trim the lashes (from the outer edge) just a bit so that they would fit to your eye. We all have different shape eyes so make sure you measure your lashes along your eye before your cut on the strip. Allow the glue 30 seconds to thicken on the strip before your pop them on. The tackiness will make it easy to stick but its still lose enough to shift in case you’ve applied it too far across or too far out.  Tip – Keep the glue in your handbag just incase they decide to peel off.

 Step: 7

Add mascara to the top & bottom lashes with a dash of highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes for a bright eyed look. If you still see a bit of the lash glue sticking out, go in with your liner & gently cover it up.

Step 8:

With this look I decided to over line my lips a bit for fuller pout. Draw an X in the center of your lips at your cupid’s bow. This will guide your lip liner to your desired thickness. Outline your lips & fill them in from the inner corners leaving the center of your lips clear.

Step 9:

Using your lip colour do the exact same thing but instead of filling the entire lip, instead create a faded lip by reducing the pressure of application. This should create a faded ombrè effect. Dab the lipstick on the places you wish to darken a bit more until you’re completely happy. Clean around the lip with concealer to make your lips pop. *LA Girl concealer ‘Pure Beige’

Step 10:

Finish off the look with fixing spray to guarantee a makeup look that’ll last all day! *MAC Fix plus
